Search Engine Optimization!

What is Search Engine Optimization?

Search Engine Optimization, commonly called SEO for short is the different methods that are used to get a website ranked high in search engine listings. Different search engines use different techniques to show their users their search engine results. One common method that search engines use to generate revenue is that not only do they offer free inclusion but they also have paid advertisements within their search engine results, this leads to the top-level results being paid inclusion and the free listings following them.

The methods used to do Search Engine Optimization include everything from writing content, to programming and acheiving a good marketing scheme while including all of the necessary elements to increase the search engine ranks.

While different companies that do Search Engine Optimization may have their own tools or preferences, I am providing you some of the common tools that are used for Search Engine Optimization. You can find more tools by searching the internet, but this should be a pretty good start. These Search Engine Optimization tools are:

What are some Search Engine Optimization Tips?

When optimizing your site content for search engines make sure that you focus on the keywords that you want to, without overuse. Just because your website is focused on information about 'widgets' doesn't mean that you need to repeat the word 'widgets' a hundred time in your content. Make sure that your content is good, and that you have chosen your keywords and used those keywords wisely. You want to repeat your keywords in your content, but reasonably where it flows naturally. You wouldn't want your keywords simply listed a hundred times on your web page as not only will it look strange, search engines do not like deceptive search engine optimization behavior. Selecting a few strong keywords is vital when doing your search engine optimization work as you will want to focus your content on those keywords.

You will want to use the common META tags within your header section of your web page. Although not all search engines use these META tags, some search engines place a lot of importance on those and your description of the website may be listed on the search engine from your META tag. Make sure that the keywords, description and page title tags are all descriptive of what type of content actually is inside your page as it will help make your web page more descriptive and will help bring it up on the search engine listings.

Make sure that your keywords that you are focusing on inside your META tags are included within the text of your page. You can use short phrases in your keyword tag and you will want to also use those within the content of your website. Your META tags are important to most all search engines, this is something that you will not want to forget to do when creating your website.

Using your keywords inside of description tags for tables, graphics and using keyword information for links is important also as different search engines will look at different information on your website to see if it is relevant to which keywords.

My site is optimized, what next?

When a website is done being optimized the next step really is to get the search engines to index it. There are many different "Add URL" services out there, making sure that all of the main websites have indexed your website is important. Some search engines will submit your website into their results immediately upon submission while others you will have to wait a while before it shows up on their results.

Once your website has been indexed and you can find it in the search engine, the next thing is to continue to optimize your text, links, code and work on getting the website as high to the top of the search engine ranks as possible. Sometimes you will need to increase the amount of times different keywords are used to rank higher and other times you would need to decrease the amount of times keywords are being used. Sometimes you will need more content and other times you have too much.
